How to answer "Why X State" in interviews?

For those that interview in rural states where you have no ties, how do you answer why that state?

Lived in a place similar in geography/demographics? Opportunities that align with your interests? Are you from a rural area yourself? You will obviously be at a disadvantage to those who can just say "I'm from here and I want to stay" but you can make it work

I straight up told them it was my background and I wanted to practice in a rural area. Also it was close to home. *Be Honest!* they can tell when you are BSing them.
