Hey guys! So I want to go to dental school obviously but I want to be an oral surgeon so is there a different way to apply to become a dds/dmd than just applying on AADSAS? So confused
I'm pretty sure that you have to complete a DDS/DMD degree at an accredited 4 year dental school, and then apply for oral surgery residencies in your 4th year. Also, I think that AADSAS and TMDSAS (dental schools in Texas) are the 2 central applications available. I hope this answered your questions though!
I think there's some overlap in the scope of practice between OMS and ENT docs, but I don't really know the details behind that. But that might be another route to a similar profession. I admire your drive, but be aware OMS residencies and ENT residencies are incredibly competitive, so I'd suggest shadowing some general dentists and other specialities and making sure those are reasonable alternatives for you, if OMS doesn't work out.
