Hi guys,

So I plan on applying for the DAT sometime this week and was just wondering how exactly you schedule for it? I went through the ADA.org registration thing and got to the payment page for the exam, which is $385. I didn't pay for it yet, but I was just wondering what happens once I pay for it? Does it show me dates to schedule or do I have to go to a different site to schedule?

Thanks

when you register to take the DAT, you pay the fine, and after a few business days, they give you your eligibility ID. you go to the link to the prometric site that they provide you, and then you register for the exam (using your eligibility ID) and select the day/time.

make sure you register for the date that you want at least a month in advance.

edit: go on the ADA's website if you want to know more. they literally spell everything out for you there

I'd have to say at least 2 months in advance in most places. When I took it they were booked about 2 months out and I had to travel to another county to take mine within the month. I later found out you can call and reschedule in advance for free if you'd like to move the exam up (assuming they have openings).

really? you have to register a month in advance? I can't register 2 weeks before?

There are limited spots at the Prometric centers to take the test, if your lucky you might find something but I would recommend signing up when you start to study. That way you will have a set date to look forward to.

Anybody else find it laughable or lazy that someone conceited enough to call him- or herself "supergenius" has to ask how to register for a standardized test?

And he wants to apply to dental school....

Ah ok. I guess I should start registering tomorrow. I wanted to take in June, but wanted to wait to register

I didn't ask for your opinion.

Everyone else thanks!

I didn't ask for your opinion.

As a matter of fact, you did. That's why you posted on here instead of reading any information on "How to register for the DAT."

Posting in a public forum opens your question up to any and all members to respond.

1. You must first read the DAT Guide which will inform you of DAT procedures

2. After you are familiar with the DAT guide, you must than obtain a DENTPIN number

3. Once you obtain your DENTPIN, apply to take the DAT with your DENTPIN and the password you chose to associate with your DENTPIN. Apply to take the DAT HERE.
