I wanted to what would be the best way to initiate contact or to approach a DO about wanting to get a letter of rec. for DO schools.
I have located(have their names, numbers, etc...) now i want to contact them and ask them for a letter of rec.

Please be specific about how to approach them! What to tell them initially, how to go about getting the rec.

Thank You

Be open and direct! Call 'em up, tell them you're a pre-med applying to osteopathic schools, and that you'd like to *shadow* them and see what it's really like to be a (primary care) physician (or whatever specialty they are). Then, after you've shadowed them a few times (can be for a few hours a shot) they will be able to write you a -really- good letter, espousing your warmth towards patients, your good communication skills, your ability to think critically, etc. A (cold) letter from a doc who hasn't seen you 'in action' may not mean as much. Definitely do the shadowing.

You've got to be your own 'salesman', pushing for what you want. Noone else will do it for you!

Good luck, Sith!
