How to become a cardiologist

Hey guys,

i'm in the process of applying ot medical schools right now, but i was hoping to get some light on the actual process of becoming a cardiologist. I've been interested in the field ever since my father had his quadrouple bypass surgery, and all of my volunteer work and research has been devoted to the field of cardiovascular medicine. That being said, I have a vague idea that to become one, you need to do 4 years ugrad, 4 years med school, then a ___ year residency program in "internal medicine???" and then maybe a cardiology fellowship? Is this process correct? Just curious. Thanks guys.

4 yrs ugrad

4 yrs med school

3 years usually for IM residency

3 years usually for cards fellowship

there is additional training for interventional, EPS and other aspects of cardiology...these are like "super fellowships."

hope that answers the question

btw...there are applications everywhere in between...no combined programs into cards that i know of
