How to cancel interviews?

If I have an interview scheduled, what is the proper way to cancel it? Thanks!

Assuming the interview is not tomorrow I would send a letter. It's a bit more formal, and I think appropriate if an interview has already been scheduled. If you are on a short time table (as in the interview is in just a few days), send an e-mail or call so they can know as soon as possible to free up the spot.
