Do you have to download something to be infected with spyware or can you get it be just surfing websites. I don't understand why there is so much spyware on my computer(i don't go to porn sites). Is it possible that there may be a program on my computer that regenerates the same spyware. advice needed.

little bit off topic, try ad-aware, also microsoft came out with its own version of antispyware.
download.com > search ad-aware

why do you keep asking computer questions on the pre-allo forum??? i think this is more for the lounge or, better yet, computer help forums that are rampant on the internet. if i wanted solid computer advice, asking a bunch of pre-meds wouldn't be my immediate instinct.....

According to an article on the Microsoft website, "Unauthorized adware and spyware usually install on your computer covertly by using one of two methods:

• Tricking you into clicking a link that installs it. Links to spyware can be deceptive. For example, a Web site that's trying to push spyware onto your computer might open a window that looks like a Windows dialog box, and then trick you by installing when you click a Cancel button to close the dialog box. Sometimes, spyware pushers will put a fake title bar in an empty window, and then install spyware when you try closing the window.

• Installing freeware that includes it. For example, you might install a free file-sharing program that surreptitiously installs spyware on your computer. File-sharing programs can be a major conveyor of adware."

Yea not exactly the right forum, but yes it is definitely the case that spyware will regenerate itself if you do not delete all its components or do not delete them in the correct sequence. I had this problem once and its a huge pain in the a$$. My computer was completely hijacked by spyware so that not even my anti-spyware programs would run. What you need to do first of all is disconnect your computer from the internet so that nothing new can download. You may need to manually clean out your Registry files and delete anything that seems suspicious. It is time consuming though and you need to be careful not to delete anything imortant. There are some freeware Registry cleaning programs that might help with that. And do yourself a favor and never use internet explorer. Just by having it open on a seemingly innocuous website you invite creepy crawly things to download in the background. If you ever see a popup to the effect of "Your computer may be infected with spyware, click here to uninstall" DO NOT CLICK ON IT, it's a trick to get you to download more spyware.
