Hey guys! I am going to become a junior this coming year and I will be applying to PT schools next summer. I have 4 TX schools already but I need to choose 2 out of state schools. There are SOO many schools out there and if you don't mind can you share how you made up your mind? Where do I apply since there are 49 other states!

What's your motivation for wanting to choose two out of state schools?

I'm guessing that you're in Texas right now. There are 12 PT programs in TX. You've ruled out all but 4. What's the story there? Price? Climate? Pre-reqs? Pass rates? Proximity to family? Social atmosphere of the surrounding city?

You may already have a bunch of criteria that could narrow down your potential schools. If you could make those explicit, it might be easier for someone to point out a school that might be a good fit. That being said, most people here will probably just end up saying to take the least expensive school with a decent pass rate on the licensing exam. So knowing what your tuition and cost of living might be becomes an overriding concern.

Personally, I've moved back to Texas to be closer to family and get the benefit of some very well priced options (and a reasonable cost of living) in state. We'll see what happens.

Also, this thread will likely get kicked over into the Pre-PT forum.

'Nuff said. Seriously, pick one that you feel will be a good fit for you and also that is the least expensive with a good pass rate. We aren't going to make millions when we leave school so no use racking up more student debt than necessary. Make a smart, educated decision.

We aren't gonna make millions?!?! Back to buying lottery tickets lol.

I believe doing some research on your own will help. Picking a school is a big deal and you should look for schools that is the right fit for you. I remember going to several preview days and all the campuses said the same thing "we are not necessarily looking for the best applicants but the right applicants for our school." I completely find that true. PT school is mostly about finding the right fit for each other, almost like a relationship. That said, I think it is important for you to look through each school that you may be interested and find out more about their program. Sorry, i feel like im saying some jibberish but to answer your question, I based mine on acceptance rate on out of state applicants (at least 40%) and stats (I can compete with). After that i try to find out about their program and weed it from there. I am not worried about the passing rate because I feel in many ways they will prepare you (cant be like 50% 🙂). As far as tuition, we are always going to be in debt, dont let that stop you from pursuing your dreams. I hope this helps. Picking places out of state can be difficult. Im trying to pick 11 places out of state and I have 3 in mind at TX. Best of LUCK! You can do it! pew pew.
