Hey guys, how do you clean your loupes? All that debris from preps and blood splatter everywhere. Do you just use your cloth in your case continuously? Is it ok to wash that with regular clothes? Do you buy like a microfiber cloth? How do you guys clean em? Thanks!!

I don't have one of those. But usually if you want things really clean with no scratches, you need to get one of the microfiber cloth. Specially for professional loupes so that you won't do a bad dental work on someone (see extra stuff you shouldn't).

I use the microfiber cloth that came with my loupes. But I'm only using them in preclinic at the moment. I am also curious to know what people do in the clinics when biohazards, i.e. blood, get onto your loupes.

I usually wipe them down with some of those Cavi-wipes we have in the office to disinfect, then i'll wipe it down with one of those microfiber clothes that came with my loupes.

It depends on which company your loupes are from...I have Design for Vision and they told me to just wash it w/ water and wipe w/ a soft cloth....Surgitel told me to never use water and definitely not use the disinfectant wipes.....i would contact your local rep to make sure.

👍

most of the wipes are said to be corrosive to loupes ... there are a few brands that make glasses/loupe specific wipes but im not aware of the brand. many of my classmates keep a box of them (like the towelettes at a wings joint) in their locker. google it.

I use the Optim 33 TB range to clean my loupes, headlight etc. No alcohol or harsh solvents. http://www.scicancanada.ca/index.cfm?PAGEPATH=&ID=17544

A good approach is to first carefully use compressed air to remove any matter from the lenses and mounting. Doesn't matter how good the cloth is, if you have prophy paste, pumice, GI cement residue etc on the lense, it will scratch when you try to wipe it off.

For a thorough clean I use air, then if needed a little excess Optim spray followed by more air to remove all the residue. Then optim wipes double folded over a plastic instrument or small ball burnisher to get into the crevices.
