How does one go about explaining a low verbal score (8). However, I did get a "R" on writing. Does one offset the other?

This has been discussed before but a high writing sample doesn't offset a low verbal score. The writing section doesn't carry that much weight. An 8 on VR isn't low enough to keep you out though considering your other scores are good and you scored above 30. Only explain the score if asked about it. Otherwise don't!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I got in with a 6V....it was an off day because in my previous MCAt it was a 9!!! Anyway, I was never asked about it...oh except for one interview when the dude asked what happened that day....I did have an explanation though. For anyone who took the MCAT at Temple in April 2002, I was the one in the A-L room who was bleeding from the nose literally 1 minute before starting the verbal section!!!! that was my explanation and that seemed to satisfy the interviewer. But dont worry it is possible to get in with less that an 8V...dont get too frustrated though if you have to stick it out in the wailist first...that's what happened to me!!
Best of Luck!!!

Here's what I'd say; "Well, I can't read good."

hi i got an 8 on verbal and was almost always a topic in my interviews. i explained it by highlighting things that showed my stregnth in verbal skills. such as good grades in english classes or if you wrote a thesis which shows your ability often when doing lit revies to intake and synthesize and organize large pieces of info . so pick things that you think might show your ability to perform what you think they are testing in the verbal section.? i hope that makes sense
