How to explain what I'll be doing or a leave of absence in secondaries?

How should I inform a school about (1) what I'll be doing this upcoming year and (2) a leave of absence during college if none of the secondary essays asks to provide this information? I was planning on emailing the schools individually, but I'm worried my file won't be updated (since adcomms are crazy busy). I'm mostly concerned with the leave of absence (non-academic reasons) and I would like for them to know what I'll be doing this year.
