How to fall asleep within 20 minutes of lying in bed

This sounds absurd, but it worked for me when I delivered papers and had to force myself to fall asleep at 7PM to wake up at 1 AM.

Convince yourself that lying very still is as restorative as falling fully asleep. You'll lose the anxiety that results from worrying about falling asleep on time.

I am having some kind of sleep problems. Usually i sleep around 10-12 hours (when i get a chance), however my sleep schedule is kind of upside down, i cant fall asleep at night, i browse, read or watch movies, then i fall asleep at the morning and usually sleep till the evening. I know u guys cant help me uh huh. Just wanted to talk to somebody about it........................

P.S i just feel sucks that i miss almost the whole day, sun, daytime activities and yes i am tired of taking night classes

I have the same problem...it was especially bad during my undergrad years, and we didn't have night classes. Even now, I usually don't wake up 'till around noon.

One of the best sleep tips ive heard is one given by a psych professor at my school who is apparently one of the world's most well know sleep experts. (He wrote book called "Power Sleep").

Don't look at any screens or be exposted to direct bright lights within hour and half of sleeping. The light is telling our brain its daytime.

As an someone with sleep trouble, here are the main issues that disrupt sleep and should be done.

-Make sure to try and go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday. The latter is more important. It sets your body's natural clock.

-Avoid coffee or other like beverages, FIVE hours before bed.

-Do not use your bed for anything besides sleep and that other thing people sometimes use beds for.

-Turn of the t.v an computer at least one hour before bed and read a book or something.

-Exercise and get plenty of natural light throughout the day, the body is very sensitive to this.

-If you can't fall asleep in twenty minutes, get up for ten minutes and read a book. Your main goal is for your brain to think about sleep when you are in bed, if you are awake it is not doing so.

-Avoid food and drink a couple hours before bed.

Hope this helps, if all else fails talk to your doctor about non-addicting sleep aids.

i saw a BBC special on this

1 - make sure your room is DARK. I believe they said that if light enters your room, it has some kind of biochemical mechanism with the rods/cones in your eyes which keeps you awake

2 - make sure you get up at the SAME TIME EVERY DAY. even if you have to sleep deprive yourself, do it! I believe they fixed some guys insomnia by doing this. it took about a week or 2.

3 - exercise and sleepy foods

put on an audio book of Bill Clinton's "My Life" or something similarly boring. Pick up the bible.
