How to find out more about a med school?

When you are trying to evaluate what makes a med school different or how it would fit you, where do you look? Curricula are often posted on websites, which seem helpful, but mission statements and "about us" are often generic. Where would you look other than the school's website or a current med student?

There are a lot of school-specific discussions here on SND. Also, many schools have really helpful pre-medical days that you can sign up to attend. It's nice to see the facilities, meet the faculty, and many even have panels of current medical students that you can question.

I have started summer classes and I don't ask directly from schools. I know people in the "cycle" and borrow theirs.

To answer both your question and blizzah's I have some (the Texas schools) that I requested personally through the website and some which I borrow from friends. I guess I forgot to include that in my original post.

Well, no, not everything one might want to know about a school can be found that way. The OP was already asking for sources beyond a website or a current student.

Some schools have their academic catalog posted on their site, where you can read about the courses offered, clinical rotation requirements, policies, etc. This should help.
