How to find out more about a med school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

When you are trying to evaluate what makes a med school different or how it would fit you, where do you look? Curricula are often posted on websites, which seem helpful, but mission statements and "about us" are often generic. Where would you look other than the school's website or a current med student?

Isn't there a place on the website where you can request additional information such as brochures? I have done that for several schools.

There are a lot of school-specific discussions here on SND. Also, many schools have really helpful pre-medical days that you can sign up to attend. It's nice to see the facilities, meet the faculty, and many even have panels of current medical students that you can question.

Just made my day to see that you edited your post for "puctuation".

OP, check out the school specific threads and the allo forums

Sorry. 😳

I was in a rush, like I am with most of my posts....

We're all guilty of that

I'm only seeing the secondary threads, a lot of which are empty.

You havent started college yet and you're asking med schools for brochures?

I have started summer classes and I don't ask directly from schools. I know people in the "cycle" and borrow theirs.

But you just said you went to schools' websites and asked them?

To answer both your question and blizzah's I have some (the Texas schools) that I requested personally through the website and some which I borrow from friends. I guess I forgot to include that in my original post.

Fixed to be more accurate.

Nice backtracking......have you ever considered politics?

Swiss Medical: Easily the saddest and most annoying SDN user on the boards. Makes me wish Once or JoyceMeng would make more appearances.

So is there a section of the specific school board that I'm missing? I'm only seeing secondaries.

Is the internetz broken?

All the information about a med school can easily be found on their site. Search it on Google.

Well, no, not everything one might want to know about a school can be found that way. The OP was already asking for sources beyond a website or a current student.

Some schools have their academic catalog posted on their site, where you can read about the courses offered, clinical rotation requirements, policies, etc. This should help.

The OP already acknowledged the availability of such material on school websites.
