Hey guys! This is an awesome forum with a lot of helpful information and advice. Well, I am a Canadian student interested in going to a med school in the states. I just wanted to ask a question about my first year GPA. I still have about 1 month to go till final exams and right now I'm standing at about a 2.5 GPA. My transition to university was really hard and ontop of that I go to the most competitive university in the country so the tests are usually harder than other schools . So I was wondering if I take more courses than I need to graduate will that help bring up my GPA (assuming I do really well in them)? Are there any other ways to bring up my GPA?

I was wondering if there is anyone here who had a similar GPA and brought it up to a 3.7+ and got into a good med school.

Any advice is appreciated 🙂 Thanks.

I'm confused about what the question is.. Get better grades and you'll raise your gpa.. the end...

You stated your current gpa was a 2.5 after a years worth of classes. Now assuming that a years worth of credits is 30 as that is common and assuming that the amount of credits needed to graduate is 120 as is also common in the US however, you stated you were from canada so it may be different there I don't know. But based of that information if hypothetically you were to get an A in every class from now until graduation you would graduate with a 3.625 cGPA. So to answer your question no it is not possible to attain a 3.7+ without taking extra classes.

You can still make it up. I am currently in first year at U of T and I was struggling. Use the summer to take extra courses.

You got the same calculation result I did. OP, there is no room for an A- or below from this point forward. Good Luck.
