So for a nontrad ORM TX resident with currently a 3.1 GPA but who will probably have a >3.8 gpa in the last 88 credit hours and hopefully a >95%tile MCAT and with average EC's, what will it take to get a merit based scholarship? (Please just assume this will happen for arguments sake.) I understand GPA/MCAT are important, but what else if anything is necessary? Especially at TX schools. Should i just try and max out my MCAT? should i try and find the most meaningful/unique EC's or try and wow adcoms during the interview? or try and do all of these things? Which aspect of my app will give me the best shot at a scholarship? Or am I already out of the running because I have red flags in my app, apart from my GPA?

From what I've seen the people most likely to get merit scholarships for medical school are those with really high grades, good clinical experience and research experience. I also think some of the mid tier schools often use scholarships to try and sway those who are competitive for top tiers; also URM sometimes get scholarships. This is just what I've seen though, so others probably know better when it comes to the details.
