Hey all!

I have finally scheduled my interview at UCLA (1/22) and now I am looking for flights into LA from NYC and how to get to UCLA from there. I looked at Jetblue and it flies into Long Beach. Is that close to LA. Sorry I do not know much about the West Coast since I have never been there. I did a search through the forums and found some other cool websites to get cheap tickets. Which one is better: Jetblue, Orbitz, Priceline, Cheaptickets, Southwest, Airtran, etc.? Which of these is more flexible in case I need to change flight times or flight days if something comes up? Thank you so much for all your help! This is my first regular decision interview so I am a bit nervous! 🙁

I wouldn't recommend flying to Long Beach unless you have someone meeting you there. The ticket cost plus shuttle costs would most likely go over what you would spend at LAX. As for airlines...airtran can be dirt cheap sometimes. Regardless of whether you use them or orbitz, priceline, etc. be prepared to pay 75 plus additional fees if you decide to change flights. Congratulations on your interview and be sure to visit Diddy reese in Westwood village for good, cheap cookies and ice cream.

i am not very familiar with flights and NYC but i think LAX might be better than long beach? LAX is the international airport in LA. i personally like priceline. good luck in your interview and i am so jealous? can i ask when you were invited for interview and how long you had to wait after secondary was complete?
🙂 🙂

Thank you so much genome25 and fakeplaztiktree! I am more than likely leaving on a Wednesday and I may stay until Friday to check out the sites! My secondary was complete on 11/12 and I got the invite via the status page on 12/22 (a very nice X-mas present indeed) I hope you get an interview soon genome25! 🙂

I was looking on priceline.com and I cannot find a return flight late enough. They would all be during or before my interview. I read that this was a problem on the threads I got from the forum search, but I thought at least a few later flights would be available. Does anyone know if other websites are better? Thanks😉

I'd do ATA cuz they are really cheap w/o much advance notice. And they have really late flights like red eyes. I know you can fly from LGA to SFO for like $200 and I am sure the fares to LAX are similar. You can also try Southwest, but ATA is often cheaper, and Southwest only flies out of Long Island, I believe. Good luck.

Woohoo! I got a cheap flight through Orbitz nonstop! The only question I have now is how close is LAX to UCLA Med School. I am trying to look for hotels in the area that are not too far from the medical school. Thanks for all your help! 🙂

Definitely fly into LAX. If you're 25 yrs or older, i'd rent a car from hertz, or whatever happens to be cheapest at the time. there is no such thing as public transportation in LA...seriously. Rent a car. If you're under 25, I think enterprise rents to young uns.

Hey - PM me and we'll chat, I can help you out. I live in the area and work at UCLA and I could help you decide where to stay, I could even show you around a little if you'd like, help you get to your interview etc, and I promise I won't sabotage your interview even though I'm a UCLA alumna and didn't get any love from them!!
Seriously, L.A. is expensive, but you'll want to stay in Santa Monica, Brentwood, Beverly Hills, West L.A. Westwood and at the very furthest, Culver City. Traffic is very unpredictable. Need a ride from somewhere? Damn, I'm just too helpful, right?🙂

hey drj2b

jlee I've missed you! Where have you been!!??

Thank you so much for all the help everyone! Thanks to jlee for the kind words. As per the status page, I got an invite on 12/22 and never got the form to send in with my preferred dates, so I called the admissions office today and told them that I had not received the form yet. The woman was nice enough to doit over the phone. She said Jan 22nd and I was like yo no doubt, thanks for hookin' a brotha up. Then I commenced jumping in my dorm room thanking God that I did indeed get an interview and that it was not a joke!
