Hi all

I want to assist research, or do a Lab volounteer kind of thing, I do have my own ideas of research.
I dont know how to go about it, ..I am on H4, so I guess I will have to do a volounteer research assistance.

Any thoughts,..suggestions, advice,. will be appreciated.

Hi,

Most of the dental schools have faculty who are actively involved in research. You can contact the graduate program co-ordinator and ask if they need any volunteers.
I am volunteering for a research group and I had contacted the graduate program co-ordinator of oral medicine dept and she recommended me to a TMD research group.

Hi mogembo,

It depends on what kind of volunteer work you will be doing. My job is basically recording the examination(data collection), so I get to see the proff examining patients with TMD disorders, I also get to see them examining the MRI , CT scan and radiographs. Other than this I will have some paper work to do. But I had to go through a few steps like immunization, HIPAA training (patient confidentiality training) before getting accepted as a volunteer.

It's like u all read my mind! i was jus gonna come on and post the same question about how to go about getting a research position! anways my situation is bascially i have applied for advanced standing and am waiting for a call from NYU but it seems very unlikely that it will happen this year...so after re taking my part 1 i dont just want to sit on my ass for another year like i just did so i want to do some reaserach hopefully at NYU cuz it will look good on ure application as well i heard that colleges eat that stuff up....so does anyone have any more info on how to go about it? especially at NYU??

I don't think we can do any kind of clinical work as a volunteer. I have been doing this since Jan and I really don't know how long I'll be continuing with this. I guess I'll do it until I can get into the program.
