do you guys just straight up read books like this to prep for shelves? or do you take notes?

De Virg is a great read because it's well written, and therefore goes by really fast, even though it's a thick book. Pestana is a tiny book, but took me forever to get through b/c I had to google every other word.

I didn't take notes on De Virg, just used a highlighter & jotted notes in the margins. I would target the high yield sections first like trauma and GI.

I liked DeVirgilio, however I mostly just skipped to the management section for each chapter for review purposes.

Probably one of the only books in third year even worth reading. Very well written. Maybe along with FA for Psych Clerkship.

I also just used a highlighter and did a few chapters per day. I mapped out ahead of time how many per day I'd need to read to finish with a few days to spare for review. Once I finished a section I'd also do the relevant review questions in the back of the book. This was mixed with all of the surgery Uworld questions, and some of the GI and Renal questions from the IM portion of Uworld. For reference, I took surgery before Internal and I am usually a note taker/re-writer but the style of DeVirgillio's was pretty conducive to me just reading through section by section and then reviewing high yield sections before the exam with no note's per-say.

Summary:
-Loved it, plenty of info to get a good score on the shelf
-Start Early!!!
