After you ask a professor to write a rec, do you just give him the list of addresses for the schools? Is there anything special they need to do other than sign it and send it off?

That seems like the easiest thing to do.

If your school has a pre-med committee, you have to use them for LORs. Usually the prof has to give them the secondary and then they forward it in a package to all your med schoools. If there's no pre-med committee, you might want to use some kind of a central LOR service if it's available.

My school does not have a pre-med committee.

Will it work if the profs just send it themselves though? My big concern is that the admissions office is going to get a letter and they won't be able to match it to my file. I'm sure they all say "I recommend Eric O'Brien blah blah...." but will that be enough to match?

Thanks for the help already!!

Does your school have a letter service through your Career Center? My school doesn't have a premed committee either, but the profs send letters to the career center, and then the career center sends a packet of all of my letters to each school. (or you can use interfolio)

But as for matching you - many schools recommend you either have you social security number or your AMCAS number on the header or somewhere in the LOR.....i'd ask your profs to include both of those numbers at the top, just a suggestion though.

Umm, anyone know of schools that have refused letters from Interfolio? I'm working with a school now about using Interfolio. Their current stance is 'No way' yet Interfolio claims they've sent 7 letters to said institution. I won't mention names but was curious if anyone else had a problem?

I'm a non-trad applicant and have been taking a couple of classes at the Univ of Colorado, finishing up the prereqs. I knew we had a pre-health advisor, but the last time I checked there was no committee letter. Anyway, I'm at my MCAT prep class and suddenly several people get up and leave. It turns out that it was the last meeting to get on the list to have a committee letter written and you needed to preregister for it. Needless to say, I don't have a committee letter, though the advisor said all I had to do was tell the schools what happened and submit individual letters. Anyone else out there with a similar experience? It's a little scary! :scared:
