I am a recent December graduate with a lot of free time on my hands these days. I have been accepted by one school, but it is not the one I want to go to. Any suggestions on what I could do to impress the admissions committees at the other schools I am applying to. I have recently begun volunteering at a hospital again and was thinking about beggining to volunteer at a local soup kitchen for the underprivilaged. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

From The Onion:

"Soup Kitchen Volunteers Hate College-Application-Padding Brat"

"'This experience will be invaluable when I have to write my personal essay, which counts for a lot with Stanford,' Malveaux said. 'It's the kind of real-world growth experience that goes over huge with the admissions people. And, if I ever need a recommendation, there are several people here who I think I've bonded with enough to ask.'"

lol yeah most people who do these things for many years will not respond well to someone who wants to dabble for a few months simply to pad a resume. in fact, they will probably hate you.

It's probably a little late by now to do anything substantial, as previous posters have suggested.

Do something you enjoy, not something to impress others.

remember how the onion parodies you the next time you decide to list your ECs. 😉
