I am going to school for pharmacy and recently started working at pharmacy as a tech (it's only been two weeks so far). I am having hard time pronouncing all the medication name and don't know how to spell most of the names. also, my vocabulary skills are pretty weak and i am not very good at explaining things to customers, and i suck at holding conversation even in my native language 🙁. english is my second language but i don't have accent. customers clearly understand me but when i try to explain something i run out of words. 😕. can anyone please advise me how can i improve my communication skills. thanks!!

i am getting my bachelors in biology and hoping to apply to pharmacy school next year. right now, i am preparing for pcat. can anyone please give me advice or suggestions how can i ace my pcat exam. thanks

The best way to improve your vocabulary is to read.

read The Economist or any type of classical literature

ya know, this is interesting, this isn't the first time someone has told me that they've "run out of english" to use.

in addition to my advice above...just read read read, if you're on your break, go get a magazine that seems interesting and start reading it until you understand/can discuss everything in it. Nice cheap way to go.

I feel like reading my own diary, except one thing I have an accent. But I'm lucky to have wonderful co-workers, sometimes when I get stuck they'd fill in. I have 2 tips for you: befriend with an English major or minor (one of my co-worker is and she's a darling when it comes to helping me with conversation); and use brand names (in most cases) instead of generic. I always say "generic of Keppra" cuz I could never say its gen name.

Hi..I'm new here..I feel I'm reading about my self except I have accent & my reading & writing skills not very good!! I just took a practice pcat test & the reading/writing score was 296 & verbal ability 321 🙁 Also, i'm going for interview next week to work as pharmacy tench. I'm so scare specially becuz i have not enough time left for the actual pcat test "mine on July 27th" I didn't finish the materials & my overall score was so bad 336!! if any idea with anything please feel free to say it & i'm very thankfull...

I read and play words with friends all day.

If you are having trouble communicating then you should also practice just talking to people in English.

I laid down my phone and was just about to suggest that. 😀

Feel free to not answer if you want, but how long have you lived in the states?

A Chinese grad student I knew went from being a very poor to an excellent English speaker by doing primarily two things: 1) He read the school newspaper every day (the whole thing...news, sports, letters, etc). He kept a Chinese/English dictionary at hand and looked up all words he didn't know. 2) He rented 2 or 3 movies every week. He would watch each once for entertainment, then re-watch it (sometimes multiple times) and practice the pronunciations, look up the meaning of the idioms he didn't know, etc. Within 3-4 years, his speech was almost indistinguishable from that of a native speaker.

I've been here for almost 9 years!! i don't have accent problem. the main problem is vocabulary and have hard time engaging in long conversations.

Do you feel shy in front of people? I used to be like that and I used to have a staring contest with a classmate for 5-10 minutes because we couldn't think of anything to say.

Talk about awkward.:meanie:

That just makes it more awkward.😉

It was my first day at the school, and I knew no students there. So I really couldn't think of much to say. I was in elementary school back then.
