Hi,

I am currently a sophomore entering my junior year. Is there any way I can increase my science GPA before I apply in the next 2 semesters. I havent taken physics yet, should I consider taking that before I apply?

From what I understand upper level bio courses dont contribute to the dental pre-req science GPA but if I take them and do well in them, does it help my chances?

I had a really bad semester last semester trying to juggle a lot of issues, which I know does not justify my low GPA in any way BUT I believe Ive come out of it stronger. I hear the 'numbers' are a better indicator of a persons ability then ECs so I really want to work on the GPA. ANY advice is appreciated!!!!

Hi,

I currently have a low science GPA of about 3.0 and a cum 3.3 GPA. I am currently a sophomore entering my junior year. Is there any way I can increase my science GPA before I apply in the next 2 semesters. I havent taken physics yet, should I consider taking that before I apply?

I am a chemistry major and taking a few chem courses in the fall too, will they help to strengthen my application? If not, is there anything else I can do to increase my chances?

I had a really bad semester last semester trying to juggle a lot of issues, which I know does not justify my low GPA in any way BUT I believe Ive come out of it stronger and wiling to work even HARDER, I just hope I havent completely flushed down my chances and can some how make up for it!!! I hear the 'numbers' are a better indicator of a persons ability then ECs so I really want to work on the GPA. ANY advice is appreciated!!!!

I think you may be due for a career change, just imho. I hear the US economy is expecting a shortage of automechanic engineers on the West Coast because of the recent Bush Wall across the lower portion of California. You can find out more in the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics website. GL with whatever choice you make!

don't panic, the average GPA for dental school is about a ~3.3, your not too far from that now!

what your going to have to do is show an upward trend (schools like that). This means keep your grades high from now on!!

If your serious about this career, put in the effort for the next couple semesters and you will be fine!

The average was a 3.3, but the median was a 3.1. This means half the peolpe were below 3.1 half were above 3.1. Good for sub 3.0s.

does your school offer any easy-ish neuro classes? I took a neurobio one that counted toward my bio major and I factored into my sci gpa. it was 10x easier to get an A in that class than any physiology or other upper level bio class... but that might be just my university...

look for a easy class in some other science dept.

Get a masters of science. that should boost your science gpa.
thats what i did.

Seriously; can you be any more of an a**?

To answer your question, you still have a good shot but you're going to need to blow the next couple semesters away and then get 20's or higher across the DAT. Take 2-3 science courses each semester and make sure you will have the ability to take A's in each class. D-Schools like upward trends and if you can explain why things got shady then you will be fine. Just don't let it happen again or you'll be in a different situation.

I was in a similar situation at the end of my freshman year and I did the worst thing possible to fix it - I loaded my schedule with all science courses without looking at my study habits and changing my methodology. Needless to say, I didn't do well at all and at the end of my sophomore year, my GPA had just gotten worse and dropped to a 3.2 with a 3.0 science.

It seems that you are pacing yourself well with your science courses, so I commend you on that! Don't panic, take courses that you know you'll do well in. Examine the reasons why you didn't do as well in the science courses you've taken and consider applying a different studying strategy. That worked for me and I pulled off all A's in my junior year to raise my GPA significantly. Studying for the DAT actually helped my studying strategy A LOT (I took it after my sophomore year as a desperate attempt to prove to myself that I could do well on at least ONE test).

As for physics - I hated it, and they were my worst grades of college. Conveniently for me, I took it my freshman year so I could group those courses with my 'bad' GPA.

Feel free to PM me for any questions or if you wanna talk! I've been there!

Good luck!

ALL BCP classes will go towards your AADSAS science GPA. Do some research at your school, find some easier ones, take them and get As. Just take like 30credits of science and get mostly As and your GPA will go up a good amount. It will require a lot of work and sacrifice though... Trust me on that hehe
