Hey all,

I withdrew from a class.

My official transcript does not indicate the specific class, but simply "withdrew via petition 07-01-XY" under Summer Session 201X. There is no "W".

Should I put the specific class as a safety measure, or would that complicate their verification?

Thanks!

It may or may not matter. Check your school's policy for the drop date deadlines for that summer session. If you withdrew after the deadline, then technically you should put a "W". However, if you withdrew prior to the deadline, then you'd be ok.

You can always omit it and see if AMCAS catches it. If they catch it, then they'll just correct it, but if they don't then you get the luxury of not having a W attached to your grades. At worst, an adcom might ask you about it, and if so, then you can just explain it then.

I had the same situation. One of my professors didn't show up for class the first week of school. Add/drop was the first week. Once she finally came to class the second week I decided she was a space case and ran away as fast as possible. I had to petition the "W" since I was past the add/drop deadline. I didn't put it on my AMCAS and it was never an issue. Plus, it it did come up it would be easy to explain. Just make sure you have the documentation and you're fine. Roll with it

Is this your only withdrawal? I have a "W" on my transcript in a calculus class and wasn't asked about it once while interviewing. It only becomes a problem if you have a pattern of withdrawing from classes. I believe the chance that this might delay verification is a worse risk to take than the chance you'll end up with a "W" listed on your application. If it was me, I'd put down the class name and a "W".
