Resident [Any Field]
i am a bit unclear as to how exactly one gets into a top spine fellowship.
as a lot of the procedures are new and innovative, most residencies do not (and are not required by ACGME) include this in their curricula.
to what extent is hands on experience a prerequisite? or is it more a knowledge and understanding of the field?
how is it that residents from name programs like uw and kessler regularly get into top fellowships (HSS, Penn, Mayo, York-Furman, Florida Spine, Emory, etc.), yet they are not physically injecting tons of patients themselves (just observing).

Nepotism doesn't hurt.
