How to list multiple Dean's Lists on AADSAS

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Quick Note: Expect people to tell you this doesn't count as an award. You'll get confirmation and rejection from people on pretty much every part of that section of the application, by the way. Go with our gut - always.

I personally didn't list multiple times. I thought it might look silly maxing out that whole section. I bundled it into just 1 and used the spaces for other things.

I would just list it once or list it and put the semester and year with it...like FA 11 Deans list. I think putting it once is fine. They can see your grades.

So Dean's list should not be put on the app? I have received the award several semesters. Can I list every semester Ihave received the award?

Do what you want. There's no right or wrong. If you have other awards, I would suggest sticking to one entry.

I just put one Dean's List and put (Ongoing) next to it.
I'm sure they won't really care, because Dean's List should be written on your official transcript anyway.

Put it down once. They don't really care if you were on it once, eight times, or never. They're looking at your actually transcript after all-- let them make the assessment on your grades.

Just put it down and get on with your life (application).

I'm just going to throw this in the mix. I just found this and honestly didn't look at it long enough to determine if it's accurate at all but I did think it was interesting.

Looks like an internal ADEA effort to present applicants more holistically (I found this because I was googling what they meant by PDF cover sheet on the EC page). They give a sample of what their projected "holistic cover sheet" might look like and on the example they have dean's list entered as one of the awards.

That's enough evidence for me to assume that it's okay to list it at all, and the one they have given is written as "Dean's List 4 Semesters" or something, so I would say do it like that. I changed my listing to that format as well.

Which may be off topic, but what exactly is the PDF cover sheet, did you find out? I'm confused as to what this is 😕

Don't think this was an option last year (unless I missed it, of course)

In the brief time I spent looking at that presentation, it looks like the cover sheet is how the application will be presented to schools. The goal of the holistic approach is to present the applicant in his or her entirety instead of GPA/DAT being the first thing the school sees.

So when I school gets an application, the very first thing they will see is not just GPA/DAT, but also the applicant's volunteer experience, exposure to dentistry and work experience. And maybe other stuff that I missed. In the application it asks you to pick 3 things per subcategory that you want to include on the cover sheet so it's up to you what their first impressions of you are.

Honestly I have NO IDEA about the validity of this thing, and I didn't even read it thoroughly because I'm trying to fill out my own application and work on my PS. If I have this all wrong then I'm terribly sorry

Yeah, I looked through the PP you posted too. That appears to be the gist of it... When did they tell us we had to do this anyway? Or the instruction? I'd imagine many people will miss this/have no idea what to do with it.

Though, I guess for people like me where our grades don't shine, it could help. Unfortunately, I have no awards for them to see either

Are you sure??? Many state schools like mine have something like University Honor for gpa's per semester above 3.5, and [super-duper] Honors (like honors with distinction, I think it is called) for gpa above 3.8

Check your school catalog for details, please. hopefully, you can put something. maybe intermural tennis winner (???)

My school has something similar. Semester GPA = Dean's List. cGPA after graduation = Honors (e.g. Cum Laude).

I appreciate the help, though. Unfortunately, I can't play tennis 😳

Hopefully, the EC part of my coversheet will make me standout.

I would list it once

I listed my unique awards, then deans list the other couple of spaces.

Not going to make a difference either way.

for "sponsering organization" would you just write "dean of ____" ??

I wrote my institution's name.

The Dean is affiliated with your institution anyway, and ultimately, it's the institution name that means anything, not the Dean.

How about this example:

Name of the honor: Dean's List of Outstanding Scholars (6 semesters)
Sponsoring organization & date: College of Liberal Arts and Sciences - May 2012

👍 This works well if you don't have enough room to fill up the awards section.

However, technically this is incorrect of course because you get your Dean's List "award" at the end of each semester, not once you graduate. However, important part is that they understand, and I think they will if phrased in this fashion.

However, if you do NOT have any other awards, I don't think listing them separately is a poor idea either.

I listed the dean twice because I had multiple 'awards' under both the business college and the college of liberal arts and sciences. And for me they are issued by the dean of the respective college. I put the date as the last received from that college and quantified it in the name, 6 total. My other 3 entries were legit. I just threw these Dean's in for fun. I'm not sure why I even bothered to fill up this section. I was quick to leave other areas blank. I didn't even open the research area. Those dates and numbers aren't my real entries, by the way.

But overall, this crap doesn't even matter. It's easy to get caught up in every little detail and worry about what's right and wrong when there really isn't a right or a wrong...this goes for all the EC areas. Looking back, I stressed the details way too much.
