How to make cheap calls to India?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
the ABSOLUTE cheapest way is probably through skype... but youll need a computer at the other end. its a voip service.. skype also has paid services so that you may call a landline from the computer, but i dont know how much they charge.

have you looked into getting a matrix sim card? they are indian numbers, that can be used abroad..

relianceindiacall.com is also a good option..

Voice over IP is probably the best bet in terms of cheap calls... now there are many options out there... Im from the US so I dont know if all these companies will cater to your UK needs but I'm sure a lot of them will...

First of all you will need an Internet connection that is always on for any of these options. Some companies will need for you to have a computer as well... always on again... its best to check with them before signing on with then what you need exactly.

1) Magic jack
Now for this service you will need to have a computer that is always on AND an always on internet connection as the device hooks up to your computer via USB and then connects to the internet to make the calls... But I think that the electricity cost is far less than the 20 dollars A YEAR that I pay for unlimited usage to call the US! I get a local number so people can call me back and the voice quality is superb too! If this is available in the UK I would get it hands down.

2) Vonage
Now I had this service before majic jack but its a bit pricier... although the benefit is you dont even have to have a computer... just an always on internet connection... the device hooks into the net connection directly and its has a digital answering machine built in that sends the message digitally to your email... so if you are at home you can check ur messages via ur phone or if you are away somewhere you can check ur messages via the internet anywhere... again voice quality is great... umm but for 30 dollars a month for the unlimited plan its a bit steep... compared to majic jack... again this price might have gone down dunno... but its worth a check and the price is for the US so UK price might be different...

magicjack is currently only available for usa and canada use... here are your options with magicjack, though:

1. buy two magic jack phones - one for yourself, and one for your family in india. you will have a usa or canadian number, but calls from magic jack to magic jack are free. its $20 a year, plus an initial $20 for the phone.

2. prepaid international minutes are available. you can go to magicjack.com and check their rates.

Try Chilli Talk. 1 p a min from phone and 2 p a min from 0800 numbers
and also 100 min free on every purchase

Yea, just do the magic jack option. Cheapest, and easiest in my opinion.
