I chose not to mention where I was doing away rotations in the main portion of my ERAS application so as not to make other programs guess why I did not choose them for an away. But I was wondering if I should mention my aways in the personal statements I assign to the two particular programs where I am doing aways? I am applying to Radiology. I have heard that personal statements are sometimes only read before the interview, which wouldn't really help me get the interview in the first place.

Anyone know if programs know who did aways at their institution without ever seeing it mentioned in ERAS?

Thanks

Was the PD not aware you did an away there? Did you not meet with him during your away?

1. I think it should show up on your transcript.
2. One place where I did an away told me they were keeping my eval on file.

I am currently on one away elective, and will be starting my next at the end of September. I have not met with either PD but plan to. I thought about scheduling my aways earlier in the year, but wanted to get more rads experience at my home institution. Plus, getting LORs from away attendings is difficult since they change every day.

It is just listed as Radiology Away Elective on my transcript, with no mention of program name.

You'll be fine I think. No program is going to give out all their invites in Sept. If you are super worried, email the program coordinator to make note in your file about your upcoming rotation.

I asked my advisor the same thing and at my institution rotations only show up on your transcript through the end of September. I imagine the places where you do away rotations would try to keep tabs on who rotates there but I would make sure to meet with the PD and express your interest. I also thought about including it in specific personal statements to those programs, I think it is the only way it would actually show up in the application. But I decided against it.
