Hi i just started doing Uworld, have done about 100 questions so far and my average is like 44%. My pre studying exam predicted my starting point at like 195. Im going through all the explanations regardless right or wrong except for the few that are obvious. How do you not get discouraged when getting owned by Uworld especially when i have set my goal of 245+ and test is in about 8 weeks

I was getting pwned and kept getting pwned by UWorld. I just kept telling myself that the averages were inflated because a lot of people redo the questions and correct their answers when on tutor mode.

yeah thats true. i know people who also do the questions based on what they have studied that day of the past few days, which will also inflate the averages. Im doing all the questions, timed and random. Getting Embryo and Anatomy questions that i havent even looked since first semester of school and questions in subjects i havent even looked at yet. just trying to keep my head up because it is frightening to see a half a block of questions come back with a 32 average.

Yeah so there are a lot of variables to factor in. Just do your best and learn from your mistakes, then its like getting a 100% if you learn the material.

Truth about UWorld. It is supposed to be used as a learning tool. Averages may mean something after you have studied at least a couple of weeks. Don't expect to know everything that you have been taught in two years right off the bat. As for me, I am two weeks away from my test and even though I am did most of it systems based I have a 68 average. You will get there too if you have such a high goal (245+). Starting low in Uworld is normal for us mortal people 🙄 . One of the most important things is to see if the ones you got wrong were because

1) You didn't read the question carefully (happened to me LOTS of times).
2)You are doing the exam fatigued.
3)Just because they were so random obscure fact...

Note: Those questions on the 50 and up range must be mastered, IMO, specially those 70 and above.

And..... 8 weeks is a LOT of time. Don't get discouraged. You will improve eventually. The closest assesment of what your scores should be is NBME's and UWSA 1 and 2.

Good luck on your studies and remember that "this (USMLE) too shall pass, just like a kidney stone"... :meanie:
