I've gone through Crush, and I've been batting around 60% on USMLE World. I still have roughly 40% of the questions left over. I took NBME #1 yesterday and did moderately well (560/231), which is MUCH better than my initial 380/186. My question is... with one week left of studying, what's the best way to study so that I don't lose this momentum and do worse? I'd obviously like to improve if I can, but I really don't want to show up on test day and throw up a 190.

I took NBME 4 days before my test and I had the same problem. I ended up doing 2-3 sets of questions a day from UW until the day before the test to keep myself in multiple choice mode. The day before the test I read through crush.

i'm also taking it in 1 week.

i'm going through the wrong answers in UW.
and i'm saving biostats for last. I just don't feel like touching that crap.
and maybe it will be in my shortterm memory long enough to get me easy points.

How'd you do on that NBME vs. the real thing? I too am doing 2-3 sets of questions per day, but I'm not improving terribly at this point, and I'm left unfocused and thus with a lot of down time not really doing anything. I guess that leads to a follow up question...

How predictive are the NBME paid-for tests of the real deal?

Thanks for all the help thus far!

Hey McSteamy,

Your current mug shot is much better. Thanks for decreasing the amount of nightmares I have waking up to the Crosseyed Scottish Albino you once portrayed yourself as. By the way, good luck on your test..!!!

My NBME score was definitely the better predictor than question banks (for both step 1 and 2). NBME II is supposed to be the best predictor for step II.
