How to notify schools if graduation date changes? Sort of unique situation.

So I was supposed to graduate at the end of this year (December '11). My college requires you to fulfill a foreign-language requirement. I was originally going to take a Spanish class this semester, but somehow I got shafted in signing up for the class and am on the waitlist - and it doesn't look like there is any way enough people will drop out for me to be enrolled.

I talked to a counselor and she said that I could just take the class at a community college in the Spring. Once I fulfill this requirement at the community college, my school would finally send me my diploma and I would have officially graduated.

So a couple of questions if you guys wouldn't mind:

1. Would this negatively affect my application? I'm guessing no because I still would have graduated (obviously) before matriculation. But I'm asking to get your opinions and to make sure.

2. How would I notify schools of this development in my application? Would I just call them directly and they would add a note to my file? Is that how this usually works for more unique situations such as these?

Thanks guys.

1. I don't think so either because you put that down as planned, and planned things don't always work out.

2. AADSAS allows you to edit coursework section November 1, not sure if you can edit your degree as well. You should call and ask. You should call the schools directly. Sometimes they will either tell you to email or fax the information so that they can add it to your file. This was about my coursework, but it should be similar. There was one school where the lady told me that if my application looked good for the most part, they would extend an interview. Then, as long as you finish up before matriculation, you're good.

Will your school allow you to have a dual enrollment with them and the CC? If so you could still take the class this semester and graduate on time.

Yes, but I don't know how feasible that is at this point because the Spanish class at the local CC is probably filled up as well by now. Besides, I would rather take the class during the Spring when I have nothing to do; it's easier on my schedule.

Thanks for the tip though.

I agree with what everyone else said. But if you're really worried, you could always call a few schools and ask. They're usually really helpful.

Wow.

You will definitely get very far in life, for you have used the correct word. 👍

I emailed all the schools and informed them of my change in graduation date. Most of the schools emailed back and said they have added that piece of information to my application.
