I'm studying for the Orgo section in Kaplan Blue book.
But I have really difficult time understanding all these reactions.
I sorta understand at the first time but when I go back or try to solve problems, it really confuses me. It's my first time reviewing orgo section.
How do you guys study for the orgo section??? Just memorize all those reactions? or will it get better at the second time reviewing??
Soooooooooo desperate......

by the way, I took Orgo 1 and Orgo 2, 2 years ago...Got A/A-....

You definitely shouldnt try to memorize all the reactions. Try to understand the mechanism of each group. For example most aldehydes/ketones will undergo nucleophilic addition, so their reactions should be similar. Likewise, most carboxylic acids and its derivatives will undergo nucleophilc substitution.

Also, remember than any reagents such as KMnO4 or any reagents that contain a large number of oxygens (CrO3, etc...) are oxidizing agents, and any reagents such as NaBH4 that contain a large number of hydrogens are reducing agents.

I hope you get the drift and good luck studying.

Hey bud, i m the same what i found helpful is reading over it again and writing notes or flash cards. I know its been a while so you just have to put your brain in orgo mode when you start this section. peace

Schaum's outline of organic chemistry

I took ochem 5 years ago, never went to a single class. I read schaum's for a week. Now, I am ochem master, throw me any questions. 🙂

I think if you got an A/A- and you actually studied then you probably remember a lot more than you think. Go through old exams and homework if you have any and find what you remember and what you dont and then take it from there. I recently started using the Destroyer, but you would need to refresh your memory before you got to it. Start with Schaum's

It will come to you all at once IMO.
It generally just came to me at 1 point while I was studying and then I started understanding the concepts.
It gets a lot easier.
