For anyone who failed or is worried about failing..

-I had a horrible foundation - the stuff they taught at my school (I go to a US school which is currently on probation) was excessive and not helpful for Step 1 so I was really worried about how I was going to do...so basically this is what I did:

-Go through First Aid using DIT - I don't care what anyone says about DIT it is the best product out there to help you get through first aid but it is only foundation material you have to get through a good first pass of FA and move on to UWORLD

-The one caveat is that DIT is 200 videos long - so if you don't have that time what I would do instead is to read First Aid using their recommended page order which makes a whole lot more sense then reading First Aid front to back.

-UWORLD is the most important part of your studying - read the article on the correlation between UWORLD questions and your step 1 score from Einstein medical school in NY. Basically people that did more questions got a higher score. After I read the article I just did the one pass of FA and did UWORLD over and over again making really good notes in the process from UWORLD. I highly recommend at least typing out all the "Objectives, etc." in UWORLD for rapid review.

-I only took 4 weeks to study but if I had more time the process would have been much less stressful, I would have probably gotten a better score, and I would have been more prepared for my rotation. I wish I got to read several more passes of First Aid as it is so helpful - I have used it on all my rotations.

-Also my attending told me today that as a medical student this is the only time you really get to read and learn the basics once you become residents, etc. you don't have that time to revisist all the basics so to the M-1/M-2s make sure you take the time to learn all the basics

Congrats. You busted your ass and it payed off.

I hope your school situation improves man. You seem to be having a rough time.

OP: I agree with your bit about using another product to facilitate the 1st pass through FA, and although I have not used DIT (I am using Usmle Rx, a qbank, to facilitate my 1st pass), I think that not using an adjunct with a 1st pass would be a mistake (or at least extremely difficult)

I think FA is just one of those things that, although you can read the concepts as they are, using a problem-based application of those concepts would really drill them in..

EmanO: when you say "go through FA cover to cover", are you planning to casually read through it? Just wondering.

yes, as i will be already finished Kaplan, i forgot to say + kaplan Qbook......
so do u suggest to do the first read of FA with DIT or USMLERX???
Thank u...

to EmanO

DIT is the best hands down...it takes A LONG TIME (I ended up skipping the psych and reproduction and some micro videos)...but the key is the get a decent 1st pass and then do the UWORLD questions...

I think the more questions you do the better because in the end you feel more comfortable with the test format the more questions you do but you need to at least get one pass of FA......All other courses (USMLE-Rx, Kaplan) were not as good as DIT IMO - either too detailed (Kaplan) or not detailed/waste of time (USMLE-Rx)
