I am finding myself sometimes, with the more difficult passages, having trouble digesting information. After each paragraph, when mapping, what exactly do you guys right down? I am using EK and TPR hyperlearning verbal workbooks. I understand the most important is to detect the author's tone and what they seem to be stressing the most. Sometimes I go a passage without missing any questions, then other times I find myself making stupid mistakes. Just trying to tighten up. I appreciate any responses.

I may be different to a lot of people, but I don't write anything down. Ever. I am really putting faith into my ability to understand and retain information about the passage I just read. If I miss stuff or don't understand it, then its just a matter of more practice...VR is a skill. For me, I try to hear the author in my head by actively reading. Even better, pretend the author is your friend and he/she is talking to you. Your not going to ignore your friend are you? ...well maybe if they are annoying. hahah. If you learn to develop this skill then you should naturally pick up the facts, main idea, and the authors tone.
