I've just started this whole process and I've allready seen that I'm going to be forking it over for the next four years. I just applied last month and took the DAT. I hope to have a good chance of getting in, but I'm not sure how to go about getting the information about paying for dental school. Are all of you taking out personal loans? and if you are how do you pay for the monthly payments on that. My wife will most likely be a stay at home mom with our newborn so we won't have an income. Am I in the same boat as any of you out there? I've also looked into the military but am now having second thoughts. If any of you have advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

I think the only choices are military, loans (lots of loans), or a rich daddy.... take ur pick 😀

Your school will work with you in fulfilling your financial needs. There are stafford loans, need based loans, and private loans. Most schools work with banks to give you decent private loans if you need more money. When you get accepted your school will send you financial aid packets and info.

I personally wouldn't go through the govenmrnt for any assistance (ARmy, Navy, Air Force). That is my personal perogative. It is definately an option. Just don't get screwed by Uncle Sam.

1000's of others do it every year, so don't worry. DO save as much bling now as possible because it does help when times get stretched and you're waiting for that financial aid check at the end of september and school has already started.

I don't know how it works for many other schools, but I just received my financial awards for loans and I have the federal plus loan which covers everything that the subsidized and unsubsidized federal loans don't cover. This loan is way better then the private loans because they cap at 8 or 8.5 % if they go up that high. Also since they are federal loans I herd that you won't be able to right of the interest but private loans you are still able to? is this true? I just herd that we won't be able to right off our interest from student loans. Either way the loans that you will be taking out shouldn't put as much strain even if you maxed them out each year as many people think. It is still a lot of money, but it is a very manageable debt if you are smart.

I saved all of my subsidized loans from undergrad and invested them and now that I am in dental school I will use this money instead of a private loan. I will still have to pay interest but I won't have to pay any accumulated interest while in school. It all adds up in the end so when you can save some money you aught to do it.

My brother had done this as well, but into property and was able to use that money to make some money with out paying for it, he sold his house and just paid back the principle of the loan. He only had to pay for a few months of interest but it was locked in at around 2% when he took them out.

Or you can start turning tricks!!!! Just playing...Sorry...I couldn't Resist. You can do Navy or Army....Airforce has a 3 year plan only. Good luck

I have had to take out mucho loans. TERI.org is a good place for private loans, but they will bend you over on interest rates. GRADLOANS.com is also a good place, if Teri isnt enough. These were the best ones i could find. be smart, you will have to pay it off someday. good luck

FYI - you don't have to make monthly payments as long as you're a student, so you won't need to worry too much about it until you're a dentist and making money anyway. That said, it's going to be a tight living supporting both your wife and child with financial aid.

I’ve heard a lot of people complain about Uncle Sam offering one thing and then giving something completely different on paper. Make sure you read read read that fine print before signing your life away.
