Hi guys, as rank lists are now starting to be a question, I wanted some input on these anesthesia programs and how you would rank them. Penn State vs. Boston Medical Center vs SUNY Downstate vs Temple University. Thanks in advance
I interviewed at Penn State and found it to be a strong program. There weren't really any weaknesses and the residents all seemed pretty happy. They work harder than average (~60-65 hrs/wk), but they come out very well trained and ready for wherever their career paths take them. One thing I really liked was 6 months of anesthesia your PGY1 year if you match to the categorical track. A few other programs are also doing this and I think it's a definite bonus. I think the only thing that keeps Penn State from being even more competitive is the Hershey location. I remember there being quite a few osteopathic grads and some IMG's, though all very qualified I'm sure.
Pretty sure it's against the rules to do 6 mo anesthesia in yor intern year...
I've been to a few of those programs. I'm willing to discuss in a private message. Can someone readdress these? In particular SUNY Downstate and Boston? I feel like they have gotten bad press and it was not necessarily the case on interview day?
What about some other programs in the northeast...Maimonides? St. Barnabas? Rutgers-RWJ?
I could use some feedback about some of the programs that I have interviewed at too:
University of Rochester
SUNY Downstate
North Shore LIJ
Baystate Medical Center/Tufts
Cleveland Clinic - #1 of course
University of Florida Jacksoville
