I'm on 3 waitlists with a low MCAT and want to take the AUG MCAT and re-apply in case I don't get off any waitlists. I know I need to apply EARLY even though my MCAT score won't come out until oct. My question is..

What kind of time-line should I be following since I'm waitlisted, planning to take the MCAT this AUG, and wanting to apply as early as possible.
Can I re-submit my AMCAS in June if I'm still on waitlists then?

Thanks for your wonderful help,

I am planning on turning my AMCAS application in as soon as I can when it comes out. I am waitlisted too and as far as I'm concerned if I get in after I've turned AMCAS in that just means I won't have to fill in secondaries.

...Make sure you guys change your personal statements for the amcas application!

on your AMCAS, designate just ONE school. wait the waitlist out and if you get in, it saves you a ton of dough. if you don't get in, you're AMCAS will already have been processed, and there isn't much of a delay (1-2 weeks) for you to add on more schools at that point in time.

can i reapply to a school while still on its waiting list? I mean - I really liked Temple and am on the CCL - but I don't know if that will turn into and acceptance.

ha i had the same thoughts, like do you submit an app to a school that you are on the waitlist. I mean man that sure doenst look lik eyou have the luxery of choosing and they will know you didnt get in. i thoguht it was weird and wa wondering hwat to do about that. I guess ill just not submit to the schools that im on waitlists until after august. It just cant be good for getting off a waitlist reapplying.. mayb eit is. whoooo knows in this circus of a process!

Yeah, looks like I'm facing this issue too.

Has anyone checked on any official policies regarding this? Common sense suggests that you can be on a WL, or you can apply, but doing both, ESPECIALLY at the same school, is not allowed.

I figured that, come June 1, I would withdraw from my waitlist when I reapply through AMCAS. A bit of a gamble, giving up a good chance at one school to garner a faint chance at many schools!

Just to complicate the issue: How about the issue of applying through ACOMS while holding a AMCAS waitlist spot? Even if not disallowed, I don't think that DO ADCOMS would view this as an honorable tactic.

I like this idea...saves money. Also, paramed2premed, this may be a better option that withdrawing from a WL early because you just never know, right?? Anyway. Trying to decide if I have enough energy to go thru this again, the third time was supposed to be the charm!!!!
GOOD LUCK TO ALL WL-ers!!!!
😀 Spin😀

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds this all a bit complicated!

If anyone has done this reapplication while waitlisted thing in past years and would like to share a success story.. I'd be very thankful!

Thanks for the replies and advice!

Let me reiterate;

Is reapplication while holding a WL legit?
Is against AMCAS policy, seen as duplicitous, or just ethically shady? On the other hand, do ADCOMS see this as a reasonable and expected move?

You may change your essay, but your SSN will be the same.

I imagine that this thread would be of great interest to many people, but it is hidden in the back pages.

Therefore, I bump with extreme prejudice.

I don't see why there would be any problem with reapplying while you're on the waitlist--to the contrary, I think it would show that you're serious (and might even get you OFF the waitlist). You have no obligation to the school if you haven't been admitted. Most schools say that you should have considerably strengthened your application before reapplying, so if you have done that, I would think you are OK. I would most certainly not withdraw from any waitlist before August--if you reapply to that school, it will have to wonder why you didn't hang on throughout the summer.

The reason why you change your PS is 1) something was probably wrong the first time, and 2) med schools will think you're lazy if you haven't changed a thing from the first time. It's not to hide the fact that you're reapplying. You have to say whether it's a reapplication on AMCAS and the secondaries, anyway.

Talk to your pre-med advisor, AMCAS, and the med school you're WL'd at. Good luck! Hopefully you will get off the WL before you have to make that decision.

I am also on a waitlist with no acceptances so far. I thought about taking the April MCAT and reapplying, but I have decided to wait it out a little longer and see what happens.

If I don't get in by July, I am planning on signing up for the August MCAT and go from there. There are some reasons for this. If I take the test in April and blow it, it could hurt my chances at the school that I am waitlisted at. If I take it in August, the school will not receive any scores until after classes have started and since I obviously would not have gotten in anyhow, it is not going to make a difference at this point.

Yes, it is a gamble, for if I do poorly on the August exam, there is no chance to redeem myself. Hopefully, if this happens, I will do well!

I am also going to go ahead and fill out my AMCAS application and send my transcripts in to them. That way, if I haven't heard anything by the middle of August, I will just be able to submit it and be ready to go. The schools are not going to act on my application until they receive the August MCAT scores anyhow and this may save me a little bit of money.

Again, the con of this decision is that it could hurt me at some of the rolling admissions schools. I just hope that I am doing the right thing. This situation is just so frustrating!🙁
