How to reply to messages from the PD?

So I got a message like this the other day:

Dear Ruban,
I've reviewed your app, and you are the bomb. Our program is also the bomb. Let's be the bomb together. My secretary will be sending you an invitation soon. Take care, Dr. Program Director.

My question: should I reply to this? It's not the formal invite (which will be sent by the secretary), so I am wondering if I should just reply and thank him for the message, or just wait 'til I get the formal invite.

I received a few PD letters like that. If there was anything the least bit personalized about the note (like referencing something I said in my personal statement or an activity on my CV) I responded to the PD with a quick acknowledgement and mentioned how excited I am to interview at their program.

I'm not sure it helps your application any, but I don't see how it can hurt.
