How can I call attention to my file at schools I haven't heard from in at least a month? I'm doing research but I haven't made any breakthroughs yet.

Are update letters only for those who have int'ed and been waitlisted? What are the range of updates one can mention in such a letter, besides new publications?

Some schools don't want update letters, so check on that. I've sent updates to schools I haven't heard from. It's given me decent results so far. I figure it can't hurt, and if they're going to reject me, I'm at least not going to go down quietly 🙂

Why not call and check to be sure your file is complete and that everything is in it that ought to be.

Besides informing schools that your paper has been accepted for publication (if it happens), or a new project undertaken, you can include fall grades/courses taken, additional hours accumulated in pertinent extracurriculars like clinical experience, shadowing. New leadership or teaching gigs obtained/completed. Close with why the school is a good fit for you and how you'd love to receive an interview invitation. Be sure it's less than a page long if you want it read.

you can send an "in the area" email, assuming you're going to be in the area...

They can't actually check those can they, whether you're really scheduled for another intvw? That's sneaky.

You can call just to send an updated transcript? It would have to go through AMCAS first wouldn't it?
Is there a faster way?

I doubt any updates will actually get your file seen or acted upon any quicker. The secretary will just throw your update into your file (your place in line is still the same).

When I first read the title, I thought it was about how you could shorten the actual waiting time in the room before your interviewer comes to get you.
