I haven't really been on here since I started school, but I can't find the search bar for searching different threads.

Either way, I just wanted to know if someone could post a link to a previous thread about what to do for the summer, or give me some ideas....

I did SO much research in undergrad, and really don't want to do that. Would it be a bad idea to do something non-medically related?

I dont think it would be a bad idea at all...perhaps you could travel overseas or even just chill out at home the whole time.

Like older SDNers suggested: Get laid or be laid. haha. Seriously, learn to become a pick up artist

I went to Europe btn MSI and MSII... it was the best idea. Came back really relaxed and ready to start path.

Where do med students get money for trips like this? I feel like the next four years will be a repeat of being super poor as an undergrad again. Having a job and the freedom of extra cash since graduating will be missed.

I spent the summer traveling all around the world...skimped during year 1 and paid for it with leftovers from my student loans 😀

Unless you want to take the DOOR (derm, ortho, ophtho, rads) to sucess than do do ****. I played golf all summer and sat on the beach and worked out. I am now interviewing at some of the top programs in my selected field.

Research is overrated.

i am considering ortho but i am still planning to do nothing. it's my last summer. i am going to travel. i like to have fun and going to make the most out of my last free break. it depends what's more important for you. i know myself and i know that i don't want to spend it doing research.

You and 75% of my class.

Seems like everyone starts out wanting to do either Ortho or EM.

*not a shot at you, just an observation

haha, my list that i'm considering is very long:
ortho, plastics, rads, EM, ENT, anesthesiology and it keeps going ...

If you want to feel at least somewhat connected to medicine over the summer, I recommend doing a preceptorship for a couple weeks or look into volunteering at a free clinic.

But yeah, enjoy yourself. Last time for a long time you'll have months of time off.

thanks guys!! i really like radiology but this summer i know that I need to go visit my grandparents in russia and was thinking about doing israel birthright or something but was worried that it would hurt me for residency.

yeah i hope it's not affecting me too much by not planning to do anything either, but i've already decided not too haha

We only get so much time with our grandparents in life. There are a lot of residencies out there and your chances won't be hurt.
