hi ,
I'm started studying for the DAT and am interested in starting my applications, but I don't know how to approach everything. I am the only pre-dental student that I know of and the pre-health advisors are a load of **** in my school. is there a special app that I can use to apply to more than one dental school or do I have to do each dental school individually?

There is one application filled out through ADEA AADSAS. On the application you select all the schools you want it to be sent to (each school is like $90 to apply). You can find the application here.

There is a lot of information out there to help you get familiar with how it works. I would read on ADEAs website to get a better idea. Good luck.

edit: Here is the 2018 Application Instructions - it should tell you everything you need to know and more.

Each school has their own requirements/steps for application but as I'm applying myself I've seen they all stick to a general timeline with a few differences. Most require the same general prerequisite classes along with letters of evaluation and dental shadowing hours. You start with the ADEA Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS), which is filled out and submitted to every school you are applying to. From there schools either reach out to you to fill out a supplemental application/pay a supplemental fee, or expect you to submit it at the same time, and other times lack a supplemental application entirely, it's up to you to find out

I don't know how far you're into your academic career, but let's assume you're rather early in the game.

For most, if not all, dental schools you're required to take Biology with labs, Inorganic Chemistry with labs, Organic Chemistry with Labs, Physics with Labs, and English Composition.
Some select schools may have other set prerequisites such as human physiology, anatomy, or even sociology, whereas other schools just recommend taking these courses.
Check which institutions you want to possibly attend and check out their prerequisite requirements and see from there.

In order to apply to dental schools you must apply through the ADEA AADSAS application for a given application cycle. If you're a Texas resident and you're applying to Texas schools you need to apply via the TMDSAS. Out of state applicants to Texas schools can apply through ADEA AADSAS or TMDSAS.

In terms of taking the DAT, you apply via the ADA. Here you choose which schools to sent your DAT scores directly to and the option to send to the ADEA AADSAS.

Some schools also require you to shadow a general dentist. Other than being an admissions prerequisite, this is a good way to gain exposure into our chosen scope of work.

You may also elect to pursue undergraduate research, volunteering, or any other extracurricular activity to become a more "attractive" dental school candidate.

I just have a few questions for you:

  • Are you still an undergraduate, if so how many more years until you graduate?
  • Are you getting your degree in the life sciences?

The application to dental school: ADEA AADSAS : GoDental

Make an account here and follow instruction about filling out grades, info, classes. make sure you have letters of recommendations.
Cost is $250 for first school, then $99 for each one after that. These are just the AADSAS fees. Each school will have a secondary fee so you have to go on their website to find out exactly how you pay that.
Feel free to PM if you have specific questions!

Alright sounds like you're well on your way to becoming a dental school candidate!

Just be mindful of those prereqs! Chances are your studies have satisfied most, if not all of them!
I'm sure if you've been lurking around SDN you know what study materials seem to work for us.

Are you planning on applying this application cycle or are you waiting until the 2018-2019 application cycle?

I'm planning to apply now, but I'm not fully confident I know what cycle ill be applying for. but for right now I want to apply to Columbia, NYU, Buffalo, and Stonybrook. to be honest however I don't think I'll get in anywhere because my overall GPA is 2.9 while my science GPA is around a 3.1

What's your DAT? reviewed and saw you're studying for it. No pressure but you're gonna have to get an extremely high score if you're thinking of colmbia, buffalo, and stony. NYU is a little easier to get into I'd say

I'm doing research into schools that are in my academic range and but those are the ones I found in general/know of. right now, however, im just studying for my DAT I'm planning on taking it at the end of September, and I haven't taken any practice exams yet bc I'm only about a month into my content review.

Hmm, is there a reason you can't take the DAT before August at least? End of September is really late...

i feel like there is so much stuff on the DAT and my progress is really slow that i won't make it , but I'm planning on taking the DAT 2009 and based on how i doi ill take it sooner than September. why does that sound really late though ?

Because some schools deadlines is beginning of October. I'd say majorit of people get their app in August.
