I'd like to start a thread with tips on how to stay sane while waiting to hear from medical schools. I'm still waiting to hear from schools I interviewed at... all of which I really like.

Aside from playing Halo and watching my cat chase her tail (did anyone know cats did that?!) I'm wondering what else I could do to pass the time. This coming semester's grades don't really count so I'm not going to be stressing to get all As or anything... and all those volunteer things only remind me of AMCAS and how I had to explain what I was doing in only 6 lines.

So let's start a list... anyone have any good ideas? 🙂

used to get high just to pass the time
music and wine were the only friends of mine
used to make love just to have a laugh
music and wine were the only friends i had
--blue six

😉

how about feeling fortunate and thinking of the many many applicants who have not heard from any school and will not get into med school this year?

go have a beer. 😉

I know just used *******es like me who have had only one interview to date to realize your in much better shape than me, and you would HATE to be in my posotion.. its really true it alwys makes you feel better to see someone in rough shape or put them down so use me as a punching bag of esteem.. i keep sane by drinking heavily so i got plenty of room for abuse! dont worry wtih 6 chances statistically you are in

Let me quote the great poet Samuel Haggar:
One shot...Mas Tequila-
Two shots... que veneno-
Three shots... Mas Tequila

Enjoy the semester!😉

This list is for them too... it's for anyone waiting to hear for any reason. 😉 Just b/c someone hasn't heard yet doesn't mean they don't have any chance of still getting in... a lot of schools interview until March!

Also, like a lot of people... I'm on waitlists... which sucks too. Most of us are probably going to be waiting for some reason or another to hear something for the next 6 months... therefore... I conclude we need a thread for coping with the waiting game. 🙂

To pass time?

How about getting in shape 😀 You'll look even better, feel better, and can start medical school with more stamina and energy.

Go for a run, go out with friends, go to work, live your life!

One thing that has made me feel less anxious is to think about what I will do next year if I don't start med school, yeah, yeah not exactly positive thinking, but if you think of things that have NOTHING to do with med school you can kind of get excited about starting something else new. For example, if I am not elbow deep in anatomy next September, I am going to take violin lessons, something I have always wanted to do but don't want to start this year as I will not have time to continue them if I do start school.

Seriously, med school is hopefully not the only thing people plan to do with their lives...think of all the other thing you can do with your life and be happy you can do THOSE things, some people can't. 🙂

I'm going to start karate lessons! In the process of kicking and punching, I'll release all the frustration I have felt from checking the mailbox everyday.

Sorry dude... I didn't realize how my thread sounded until I read it again... all I meant was that I'm still waiting for a lot of schools to tell me something... there are also a lot of schools I haven't heard anything from. Keep in mind that I applied to a lot of schools!

I like I'll take that one poster's advice and try to get in shape... have to work off all those lbs from finals and the holidays.
🙁

Um... I don't need to watch Cleveland sports teams... med schools offer enough humiliation... 😉

i'm not the one who's crazy

INSTITUTIONALIZED!

you're the one who's crazy

INSTITUTIONALIZED!

1. Read another religion's sacred texts just for the sheer enrichment/enjoyment factor of learning about other worldviews.
2. Exercise.
3. For the ladies out there, paint your toenails and fingernails. Wax your legs, pluck your eyebrows, etc. Get sexy! (This goes for the guys too, just can't think of specific things that makes guys feel pretty...not that they want to feel "pretty" necessarily.)
4. Learn a foreign language. Go to your local library and pick up some tapes. Learn Swahili or Yoruba or something kind of different and unusual.
5. Go to your library and pick up some good books. It's free!
6. Learn to cook. Make dinner for your friends.
7. Get a job.
8. Get another job. Send me the money 😀

my cat is in love with his own tail. in love with it. it is his best friend, one may think. 😛

i exercise. i sing in a chorale. i volunteer. i am waiting until like march to hear from my give-up-my-firstborn-if-you-please-let-me-in school. i keep myself overbooked in order not to dwell on it... something to do almost every day after work will make me so tired that i just crash at the end of the day and one day i will wake up and it is march! 🙂

i work lots and lots and lots and lots of ems when i'm not at my real (ie, paying) job. i also exercise and lately i've been working on my application to a master's program. it's not negative thinking...it's planning!! 😀

RP is married, so that's out of the question I'd hope...

How about playing with your cell phone some more RP? You seem obsessed enough with it. 😀

Speaking from the perspective of someone who's already graduated, enjoy the people you have around you, the effort to keep in touch is so great that you may not see them again after college.

Also, if you've just started, sign up for a couple cool classes, like archery or piano playing, if your school offers them.

Yeah, that "bettering yourself" stuff is alright, but I say you should just keep playing Halo. 🙂

Have you played it online? Check out http://www.xbconnect.com for more info. Very fun!!
