how to study during residency?

i'm a 4th year med student, finishing up school pretty soon and starting residency in pediatrics. So far I have had a lot of guidance in terms of study material. everything has been according to lectures or geared toward step 1 and step 2.

How do people approach studying during residency? do I just read nelsons? do i just read about the cases i've seen? do i just do questions? do just read peds in review?

how do you study during residency?

You will find the method that works best for you. Peds in Review is great because it's digestible and pertinent during busy clinical rotations. I wouldn't recommend reading Nelson's religiously just to get through it-- it always helps to conceptualize things when it has to do with a patient you're caring for. Read about topics relevant to your patient care at the time and you will learn a great deal. I would save the questions for 3rd year-- just focus on learning how to be a good pediatrician and know more about your patients and their diseases than anyone else on the team-- you'll be set.

I am reviewing all cases I have well most of them, one or two for different diseases they have here in neonatal care. Time is a big problem though since I am spending most of them with paper work we need to get done before patient is discharged.
