My college has an LoR submission service that they require us to use. The problem here is they only will send a max of 3 letters and we have to send the same 3 to every school. I decided to work for over one year after I graduated so I have 4 letter writers willing to write me strong letters. They each can say something different and good about me ( 2 letters from profs from my college (1 is my biology prof and the other is my engineering advisor/prof), 1 from shadowing a doctor, and 1 from work).

How can I send schools an additional 4th letter? Would I be able to ask one of the letter writers to upload via some outside LoR collecting service (i.e., AMCAS has a service that lets people submit letters to a small list of schools) or would that get confusing? How did other people go about this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

interfolio. its really easy and not too expensive.

I believe you can also have the 4th letter writer send their letter straight to all of the schools to which you're applying. This is the way it used to be done a couple years ago before those online services became available. Just make sure you provide the letter writer w/ pre-addressed/stamped envelopes.

I would call one of your top choice school (or a couple of schools) and ask what they'd suggest. Some schools might not accept paper letters (though im sure most will) and having letters from more than one letter service might be confusing, but if thats what the admissions coordinator suggests, I'd go with that.

My school uses Virtual Eval which allows 4 letters in addition to the premed committee letter to be uploaded.

I find this ridiculous that your school is limiting you. They are limiting your application, and if you don't get into medical school, I would tell them that you will file a complaint with OMSBUDS of the university sending your letters.

Once you are out of school for 2 years, your requirement to submit letters through your university actually changes at many schools. You are now a slightly non-traditional applicant. You have bolstered your application. They are denying your right to reflect that.

They should either upload all of your letters, including their committee letter, to interfolio--and then you can also have the 4th letter uploaded, and YOU can be responsible for dispersing the letters to schools, OR they should be willing to submit all of the letters.

The premedical committees of many schools limit the number of letters to 5. Four, especially when you just worked for one year and one is an employer reference, still has the capacity for each to reflect new and unique information.
