Do you send an email, letter, or phone call?
I believe a letter is the most professional way to do this but I was wondering what other people were doing.

Both of my acceptances had instructions on how they want you to do this...

I believe a letter is the most professional way to do this but I was wondering what other people were doing.

However, I did my best to be polite and adequate.

Fortunately, I got courteous words from the university!

I called schools today and most required an email be sent. They were all encouraging, wished me luck, and thanked me for contacting them.

I just emailed one, and the other one was going to get a phone call, but the admissions dean called me so I just told him then. If you have a good rapport with the admissions dean, a phone call is definitely the way to go, unless that person does everything via email.

I would stay away from just leaving a voicemail 'though. 😉
