As above. I just got notification that I received the yearly scholarship for the highest mark in my school's 3rd year organic chem course, and bloody hell was it hard earned.

😕 😱 😱 < my standard expression in 2/3 of the lectures

How should I write about it to AdComs? Obviously I'm happy about it, especially as I'm doing my honours thesis with the prof that taught that course, but other then "hey look, I'm s-m-r-t!" what should the actual substance of the email be?

Is this not included in your primary application?

No - I just received notification of it. Two people in the entire year got A+, and I wasn't sure which one of us topped out until just now.

well you can send an update letter/letter of interest to the school. There are a lot of threads that explain exactly what to say.

This is my totally uninformed and baseless opinion as a pre-med, but I would personally wait. In the med school application process, getting an A in ochem is a pretty common achievement and does not seem to merit its own update letter (even if it's the highest mark in the class, an A is an A is an A).

I plan on sending update letters as well, but not until I accumulate a few achievements worth mentioning. I will probably wait until later in the season, either post-interview or once I have not heard back about interview invites for several months, depending on the school. The hope is that it will draw attention back to my application, if it's been put in a big "on hold" pool.

Again, this is my totally baseless opinion, but I like the idea of sending an update letter that has a chance of making the reader be like, "Wow, looks like talinnlove's been working really hard," as opposed to, "well sh**, are we going to get an update every time talinnlove does anything?"

This is the more likely interpretation of your update if sent before an interview invitation.

That's the thing - it isn't just top mark, it's an actual scholarship awarded for top mark.

Still, point taken - I'll wait for some other achievements to come home to roost.

I hear you.

Even so, only send "updates" to schools that are open to them (many are not). Send them when they might do you some good (usually after they have shown some interest).
