Highly considering joining the Americorps. Other than the low wage, how was your experience with the program. I love working with the community and helping people out.

One hundred percent worth it. You'll be surprised by just how comfortable the low wage is and how much of a cushioned lifestyle you will be living compared to those you are serving. I am considering applying for another year and deferring medical school acceptance for one year. Definitely look into it!
Great to hear! What did you do in your program? The programs that I'm interviewing for are focused on helping the opioid epidemic and helping incarcerated individuals transition into society.

I'm working at an underserved school that acts as a community resource hub for the local community. So I do a lot of different things with both the students and families, based on the needs of community. I worked a LOT with formerly incarcerated individuals as they transitioned into society in undergrad and it was a wonderful experience and I have been asked about it at every interview so far.

i did Jumpstart, which is an AmeriCorps program, when I was in undergrad and it was amazing, loved it... I'm doing another term with another AmeriCorps program rn and matriculating to an MD school in August; this program is ehh, not as fun as Jumpstart was, I was mainly looking for something to do during the gap year that was close to home and when i accepted this position I hadn't been accepted yet so I figured another americorps term would help if I do need to reapply... I'd say definitely do it
