how will this affect ambitious pain docs?

this is stolen elsewhere from SDN (i think under the 'general health issues' section).

maybe i am not understanding this correctly. in the article it states that there will be a ban on doctors starting their own hospitals..

i mean technically, all private practises are the doctor's own niche?

so surgi centers are out from this article...

what about anesthesia pain practises...since thats not really an office based practise is it? since you need to have an OR...

ahhhh!! we keep getting f****d in the a** every day it seems...pardon my french...actually dont, i dislike frenchies...both from France AND Quebec...

In doctors-owned hospitals, the government can deny government payments for procedures, from what I understand...i.e. medicare and medicaid.

The solution is simple, from an owner's perspective.

Don't accept medicare or medicaid.

Which is the intent anyway.

I agree with an opinion from the article that care is better and more efficient in the physician owned facilities.

Less red tape.

Ability to focus on patient care. Ability to NOT FOCUS on what some JCHO representative thinks you should focus on.

Until that one fine day when a medical license is contingent upon the physician's compulsory acceptance of medicare and medicaid patients.

http://www.mass.gov/legis/bills/house/186/ht04/ht04452.htm

"Every health care provider licensed in the commonwealth which provides covered services to a person covered under "Affordable Health Plans" must provide such service to any such person, as a condition of their licensure, and must accept payment at the lowest of the statutory reimbursement rate"

There's no question.

In a MD owned place the physicians dictate what goes on. Less nursing tryig to block docs. MD's like this environment and so will bring their patients to these sort of surgi centers. It's a travesty that surgi centers wouldnt be possible....hopefully I can own one before the bill goes into effect in 2014??

My only comment is that people from Quebec aren't French. They're Quebecois. Just like we're not English. Though I can see how it's confusing because we speak English...

Last year, one of my friends approached me about buying a piece of land with him and a few others which would be a prime location for an ASC in a few years. Needless to say, I'm glad I passed.😉

'Bout the only safe thing to invest in is gold....sad, given that things used to be soo much better....
