I think I'm either being obtuse or overanalytical but...

When an interviewer asks how you will end up choosing what medical school you would like to go to, are they also subtly fishing around to see if you say that they are your first choice (or one of your top choices)? Because it seems like the answer to this this question will be largely similar for most pre-meds otherwise.

I just feel like I can't figure out my top choices until I'm all done interviewing and don't want to be fake and lie. If I don't express extreme interest in school X while answering the question, am I doomed to waitlists?

Thanks!

I've always responded to this question by giving some general remarks and then going on to talk about how their school specifically fits in well with me. I think interviewers are looking for signs that you like their school, but they probably aren't looking for that "You're #1" response. I definitely agree with you on staying away from making "top choices" until interviewing at places. I've found that visiting the schools really has a way of swaying your mind and influencing you (for better or for worse). Good luck!
