I have a friend who applied to pharmacy school last year and her application was rejected. Her GPA is 3.98 and PCAT composite is 81. She wasn't given a reason why her application was rejected.

Now I am in the same boat and applying this year. I would like to know possible explanations for her application rejection.

Any Ideas?????

Which school(s) did she apply to? Does she have a BS? Does she participate in any activities outside of school? Is she a social and likeable person?

Maybe she got a bad letter of Rec. On the past I received a negative letter of Rec. from people applying for a research position. Yeah believe it. I cannot tell them that I rejected them because their letter of Rec are bad. It is confidential! So be careful whom to ask for the letter of Rec.

Perhaps she was lacking in other aspects of her application such as her LORs, interview, and pharmacy experience. Maybe it was just a very competitive year, which could make a 81 pcat seem not so great.

I agree - A guy in a different O Chem class as me applied to UF. He scored a 93 on the PCAT and his GPA was around 3.9 - maybe 3.91. He was rejected. Turned out he had a minor felony for marijuana. From the outside he looked like an excellent canidate - one thing jacked up with your application can make matriculation impossible.

I wish people would just say they cant write you a good recommendation. That would solve the LOR problem alltogether.

My feeling is that there must be a lot of professors out there who are evil and mean spirited. I can't imagine why any person would do that. It's sick. It's called a letter of RECOMMENDATION. If you can't recommend your student, don't be a weasel and agree to write it, and then diss them behind their back.

That's messed up. Did they do a background check or something?

from what i know, she wasn't invited to even interview. And she's been a favorite student of few professors who wrote LORs, so that possibility is out.

A felony for just having marijuana? Sounds suspicious. You don't get a felony for just having marijuana unless it was a lot. Maybe he was trying to sell it.
